ADJECTIVES

​

los adjetivos son palabras en la oración que califican al sujeto, es decir lo definen y lo describen.



  • Determiners

This, that, these, those / every, each, either, neither

 

  • Descriptive adjectives

Colors: black, gray, violet, red, blue, etc…

Size/measure: big, large, small, thin, light, deep, etc…

Shape: square, round, rectangular, triangular, oval, cubical, etc…

Age/time: old, young, new, modern, ancient, fast, etc…

Weather: rainy, stormy, sunny, windy, snowy, cloudy, etc…

Temperature: hot, cold, freezing, lukewarm, pleasant, etc…

Texture: soft, rough, wet, dry, sticky, sharp, dirty, clean, etc…

Materials: iron, steel, rubber, paper, woolen, plastic, wooden, leather, gold, etc…

Religion: catholic, hindu, Buddhist, muslin, etc…

Condition: crazy, sick, healthy, drunk, broken, asleep, hungry, married, etc…

Cooking: cooked, baked, fried, boiled, cut, etc…

Sound: loud, quiet, faint, mute, silent, noisy, deaf, etc…

Opinion: good, bad, easy, true, false, famous, etc…

Personality (positive): optimistic, courageous, patient, etc…

Personality (negative): pessimistic, coward, impatience, etc…

  • Participle adjectives

Confused - confusing, bored - boring, tired - tiring, worried- worrying, interested – interesting, etc…

 

  • Compound adjectives

Characteristics: a good-looking girl: una linda chica, a weel dressed woman: una mujer bien vestida, a part-time work, etc…

Personality: a hard-working person: una persona trabajadora, a stuck-up model: una modelo engreída, etc…

Physical appearance: a curly-haired girl: una chica de pelo rizado, a fair-haired man: un hombre de pelo rubio, a freckle-faced little girl: una niña pecosa.

Quantity:  a forty-story building: un edificio de cuarenta pisos, a two-week tour: un tour de dos semanas, a twenty-years-old girl: una chica de veinte años.

 

  • Numeral adjectives

First, second, third, fourth, fifth, etc…

 

  • Intensifiers adjectives

Very, so, too, quite, pretty, fairly, somewhat, a little, rather, etc…

 

  • Comparativos-superlativos

Tall – taller – tallest

Big – bigger – biggest

Intelligent – more intelligent – the most intelligent

Small – smaller – the smallest

Happy – happier – the happiest

Good/ well- better- the best

Bad/badly – worse – the worst

Much - more – the most

Far – father/further – farthest/furthest
